Installer Project Overview
Why Make an Installer?
Put simply, because we want open-source CFML to be available to everyone with as little hassle as possible. The installers make it
so that anyone who's interested can have a production-ready open-source CFML server installed and ready to go in literally just minutes.
What Operating Systems are Supported?
The installers currently support Linux and Windows Operating Systems "out of the box". For Linux, the following versions have been tested:
- CentOS/RHEL 4/5 32-bit/64-bit
- Ubuntu 8.02 LTS 32-bit/64-bit
- Other Linux flavors will probably work, but have not been tested.
For Windows, the IIS connector is currently limited to IIS7, so if you want to use IIS, you will need to use the most modern versions of Windows:
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista
- Windows Server 2008
- Other versions of Windows will work, but will not connect to IIS.
Additional operating systems can be added but we will support those based on the amount of demand we get for different OS's. Linux and Windows have been by far the most requested.
Who can use the Installers?
Anyone! The OpenBD and Railo projects are licensed under the GPLv3 and the LGPL respectively, so they can be used for any purpose, commercial
or otherwise, just like you can use PHP, Java, Ruby, or any other open-source development language.
Can other Hosting Companies use Vivio's Installers?
Absolutely! In fact we want other hosting companies to offer open-source CFML engines. It's our firm believe that there's planty of hosting
buesiness in the world to be had so if you're a hosting company and you feel your customers would benefit froma value-add like open-source CFML,
then we hope these installers help you in that goal!
